Caritas Secular Institute

Payyavoor Community Development Project is the social work wing of the Caritas Secular Institute.

Caritas Secular Institute is a Congregation of Catholic Sisters under the Episcopal jurisdiction of Arch Diocese of Kottayam, It was founded in the year 1961 by Mar Thomas Tharayil, the then Bishop of Kottayam. His love and concern for the poor and the sick prompted him to found an Institute dedicated to the apostolate in the Medico-social field, rendering dedicated service in health care and social work. The charism of the congregation is to help towards the realization of the Kingdom of God in this World by working for the sick, the poor and the needy irrespective of caste, creed or religion with Christian love and compassion and to follow the Truth in a spirit of Charity.

The Caritas Secular Institute is governed by a Central Administrative team consisted of Directress General and her four Councillors. Sr. Lisy John is the current Directress General of the Congregation. The Central House of the Institute is located at Thellakom in Kottayam district of Kerala state.
