Self Helps Groups are self-governed, peer controlled, informal micro enterprise groups who gather together, save together, mutually contribute to a common fund and lend to the members in their emergency financial needs. The SHGs are instrumental in promoting saving habits, capacity building, self-employment, self-reliance and marketing abilities. Self Help Groups (SHGs) help to improve the socio-economic status of the under privileged people by increasing their economic status and improving their standard of living. With these views, PCDP encourages and promotes micro enterprise groups like Self Help Groups (SHGs) of the women and men. The SHG groups promoted by PCDP meet once a week. They contribute a fixed amount of money towards their savings. This money is used for providing loans to the members. PCDP uses these groups of women as the key medium to empower and uplift the rural women. Many SHGs supported by PCDP are in existence for several years now.
